Health and Genetics

Maine Coon is a very beautiful cat, so charming to become "fashionable" and therefore too much often victim of his own beauty.
He’s nicknamed a "feline giant", a "little bobcat", "the largest cat in the world".

We are persuaded that these features are fundamental, but we are also aware that the research them carried to the extremes, with the purpose to create more attractive, excessive cats, real protagonists in the shows, had induced many breeders to a disastrous consanguinity.
Our cattery is based on the most important American bloodlines, coming from USA and from Canada and we’re strictly convinced that consanguinity must be decreased as much as possible and genetic transmissible diseases must be drastically thrown down.
We are so very proud to collaborate with new-generation breeders, close to us for our philosophy of breeding, that don’t pursue only a beautiful cat, but that are also determined to improve and enrich genetic patrimony of cats of their catteries.

This is also our constant effort based on two essential pillars:
- All parents are tested for genetic diseases that most frequently hit this breed: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Hip Dysplasia (HD), Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).
- We improve pedigrees quality and therefore genetic quality.

It means to decrease drastically consanguinity rate, to work on gene pool and enrich it with new Foundation bloodlines from Maine. All this will bring new blood, new lymph to Maine Coon’s immune system, health, strength, and longevity.
Definitely, we research a “renewed”, or rather, a “recovered” Maine Coon, from a genetic, health and behaviour point of view, to make the features of this splendid breed finally shine.
